Obituary of Mrs. Sant Kaur Dosanjh .

Mrs. Sant Kaur Dosanjh December 31, 1921 - September 17, 2016 Mrs. Sant Kaur Dosanjh, 94, passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital on September 17, 2016. She will be remembered as a courageous and brave Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother born on December 31, 1921 in Uganda. She leaves behind a large family that she was very proud of. Our mother was also renowned for her compassion and humanitarian values and strong in adverse times without giving into societal demands. She was a friend, mentor and guide to all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She believed one should live their life with simplicity, grace and truth and she was a role model in that capacity. She had a highly curious mind with a flair for languages. She was fluent in languages beyond her native Punjabi and could converse in Hindi, Gujarati and at least 3 dialects of African languages including Swahili. She had an excellent command of the English language enabling her to bridge gaps with grandchildren and competently communicated with medical providers. She built a life and family with her late husband, Hari Singh Dosanjh in Kabale, Uganda during the pioneering days of East Africa. Her deep life experience and relationships with people from all walks of life and backgrounds gave her a unique world view in which to guide her children. She was always able to see the wisdom in the darkest of circumstances and never succumbed to playing victim. However, she had an amazing sense of humour even though it was a bit dark at times. The last show she watched in hospital were episodes of Mr. Bean on an iPad. She was a woman ahead of her times with a far reaching vision. She had an industrious and resourceful nature with all sorts of creative ideas and projects on the go with her sewing and craft skills. She strongly believed in preserving resources we often take for granted. An avid cook, gardener and traveller right up into her eighties, she continued living this passion through TV travel and cooking shows in her late years when she was unable to work with her hands due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her legacy lives on in the rich memories she leaves behind for everyone who knew her. She will be missed dearly and remains in our hearts forever.
