Victor Parsons

Obituary of Victor Perry Parsons

Victor Perry Parsons (June 7, 1929 to October 29, 2017)

Victor Perry Parsons passed away peacefully on Sunday October 29th at the age of 88.  A gentle and loving husband to our mother (Joan Lucy nee Woodhams) who preceded him in death.  Victor was the much loved father of Christine (Jeff) Wood, Patricia (Mark) Lowe and Greg (Pam Harris) Parsons.  A very special and playful Grandfather to Jeremy (Jen), Jewel (Ben), Jasmine, Jason, Nicole, Ryan (Stephanie), Aaron and Great Grandfather to Evangeline and Camille.  Preceded in death by his mentor and dear brother John (June) Parsons of St. Thomas Ontario.  Uncle to Alan Parsons of Toronto and David (Nancy) Parsons of Ingersoll and Great Uncle to their daughters Rachel and Nicole. Brother in law to Raymond (Alice) Woodhams of Toronto and uncle to their daughters Diane and Linda Lee, also of Toronto.  Victor will be missed by his Grand Dogs, Oliver, Newman and Rufus.

Victor was born in St. Thomas Ontario on June 7th, 1929 and spent the first 10 years of his life on the Perry family farm near Elnora Alberta on the Red Deer River.  He lived like the young prairie boy in W.O. Mitchells classic “Who Has Seen The Wind.”  As a young man, Victor’s passion was football and he played several seasons as number 21 for the St. Thomas Yellow Jackets, part of the junior league that many Canadian Football League players got their start. In 1952, Dad married our mother Joan (nee Woodhams) and they left their home towns of St. Thomas and London respectively to pursue their dreams in Toronto.  They purchased a home in Scarborough in 1955 which remained the family home until Victor’s recent illness.  Victor was an avid hunter and angler and will be missed by Greenbush members and friends who joined him on lakes, rivers and forests over the past 65 years.   Our Dad was a very, dedicated employee of SPAR Aerospace and other aircraft businesses in the GTA from 1953 to 1993.  As a highly specialized gear machinist, he contributed to the development of the Avro Arrow and making the Canada Arm.  Dad’s hands were always busy, from doll houses, goalie masks, go carts, blue bird houses, Greenbush furnishings and outbuildings, he perfected his craft.  He championed our family golf tournament in honour of our mother, “Woody” for the past 15 years and loved the game they played together after their nest emptied.   They were great travelers and we expect they are travelling the world together once again.

A thank you to the staff at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, especially Jerry De O Campo, the palliative nurse who helped us and him on the journey.   A celebration will be held at the family home on Saturday November 25th from 1:00 PM to 4:00PM for friends and family.  The address is 19 Cornwallis Drive, Scarborough. Flowers are greatly declined and donations may be made to The Hospital for Sick Children, a favourite family charity of our Mom and Dads.  These donations may be made using the link provided under Victor's photo on his homepage.
