Marie Warfield

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, Gertrude Marie Warfield (nee Bennett), loving wife, mother and Nanny passed away at the age of 76.

Born December 16, 1945, in Kelligrews Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador to parents Austin and Althea Bennett, and the eldest sibling of Austin, Keith, Allan and Ron whom she loved dearly. Many years later in Newfoundland, Marie met her soulmate Thomas Warfield and joined him in moving to Ontario to begin their life together. On Canada Day 1966, Tom and Marie wed and settled in Brampton where they continued to live together until her passing.

Marie and Tom had three children together, Thomas Jr, Tina and Tanya. She was immensely proud of each one and being a mother to her three was her greatest joy. Marie was a selfless woman who prided herself on her open door policy where she ensured that any and all who needed her were welcomed into her home. She did just that with each of her children’s partners, Carole, Murray and Sean, who she loved as her own. In 2000, Marie was awarded the honourable title of Nanny. She was blessed to have four grandchildren (# one) Landrie, (# two) Abby, (# three) Sidanna and (# four) Ava. Marie was so proud to be a Mother and Nanny, always ensuring that others were well taken care of before herself.

Marie had the greatest sense of humour and enjoyed the simplest things in life, having a loving family, the sun on her face, cooking for others and sharing recipes, laughing with friends and of course, salt beef suppers and Mary Browns chicken. She loved her visits back home to Newfoundland, creating memories with family whom she adored and enjoying her favourite dishes, Ches’s Fish n Chips, Fish and Brewis around the Bay, homemade bread and a traditional Newfie jig supper.

Although her death was unexpected, knowing she is free to fly brings us all peace. Her life began in Newfoundland and in time, her final resting place will be in Charlottetown, Newfoundland on the hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

To our Wife, Mom, Sister and Nanny;

As you take your final rest and begin your new journey without us present, we ask that you watch over us. We want you to be proud when you see us again and know we lived our  lives in a way that makes your heart smile. The loss of your presence has left a hole in our family, in a moment you went from being a person to becoming a memory. A memory we will cherish forever.

Family was the most important piece of Marie’s life. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Ronald McDonald House of Canada to support families in their time of need. Please use the Donations tab on her home page,  thank you.

We invite you to share memories, photos and stories of Marie's life here at her memorial web page.
