I was driving in my car today listening to CBC - my set station. The announcer was speaking about the recent passing of Neil Crory, a producer from CBC. I immediately questioned whether this was the Fred Crory that I knew in junior high school in very rural Alberta. I knew that he was Frederick Neil or Neil Frederick, spelling questionable. We both took music lessons from the same music teacher in Tomahawk, Alberta. Fred was two years older than me although his sister, Maxine, was in my grade. After junior high school, half the class went west and half went east. We lost touch although I had heard that he subsequently was working for the CBC in Toronto. Music was obviously his forte. It was not mine. I became a psychologist.
Even though I have not been in contact with Neil for more than the forty years, I feel profoundly sad at his passing. When I knew him, he was always a very gentle, engaging, and sensitive person who had a tremendously acute musical sensibility. I am so pleased that he contributed so much to classical music in Canada.
My condolences are extended to all of those who loved him.

Saddened to hear of Neil Crory's passing.. I was Neil's family doctor for many years until my retirement. He was a sensitive, gracious and obviously talented soul. One of the highlights of my music appreciation was attending the Millenium New Year's Eve Gala at Roy Thomson Hall. I regret that I didn't get Neil's autograph of the CD of that concert which I continue to enjoy. Again, my deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Neil Crory. He had such a strong commitment to the music he truly loved, the beauty of the classically trained human voice in the lieder art form. I didn't really know him well but Neil was very kind to me when I first arrived in Toronto as the new and green host of " Stereo Morning." We had many lovely exchanges in the hallways of the then, new CBC building. In his quiet soft spoken way, he had very strong and intellectually audible opinions on many musical topics and other wise, including public broadcasting! I always felt in some way he was from another time, a more beautiful one than where we find ourselves today. He really understood the need for beauty, sometimes more than bread, in the words of D.H.Lawrence. He will be deeply missed. Requiescat in pace

Sincere condolences to Bruce and Neil's family.
It was a joy to know Neil and work with him, and a privilege to count him as a friend. I know best how Opera Canada benefited from his long association as writer, editor and counsellor, but his contribution to classical music in Canada was profound and far-reaching in so many respects from coast to coast. His memory and legacy stands vividly in the recordings and broadcasts he produced, the shows he masterminded, the performing institutions that benefited from his expertise, and the many artists he so lovingly encouraged and assisted.
Rest in Peace, Taubenpost, your unique contributions made a huge difference to our musical lives.

Deepest condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Neil many times during my days as a free lancer and then at the Toronto Symphony. It was always a pleasure to meet him backstage, chat and have a few laughs. Neil was a fantastic musician and he will be sorely missed.
