Obituary of Ruth Noemi Silva Boada Hicks
Ruth Noemi Silva Hicks, age 65, passed away on February 15th, 2025 after a prolonged illness. She was at home in the presence of her loving husband, John.
Ruth was born on December 19, 1959 in Quito, Ecuador. She was raised by her wonderful grandparents whom she lovingly referred to as, ‘mama y papa,' and she grew up with uncles and aunts who were like siblings to her.
At the age of 16, Ruth immigrated to Canada where she attended Greenwood Collegiate Institute and then began her career. She worked as a jewelry technician and later on as a pastry clerk.
Ruth married her first husband in 1983 and gave birth to her first child, Vanessa, in 1986. In 1989, Ruth met the great love of her life, John. Together they began to build a life and family with their daughters, and in 1991 they welcomed their son, Daniel.
Ruth was a loving and dedicated mother and wife. She took pride in caring for her family, and her home, and never seemed to tire of doing everything she could to make the lives of her children and family happy, safe, warm, easy, and full of laughter.
Ruth deeply valued her relationships with both friends and family. She made a consistent effort to keep in touch with her loved ones and was always there to lend them a hand with anything she could help with. Throughout her life, Ruth made regular trips to Ecuador to spend time with her family, her childhood friends and their families, and to stay connected to her roots.
Ruth loved to be active. Growing up she was a dedicated track and field athlete and up until she fell ill in 2020, she loved going to the gym. Ruth was a talented gardener, chef, baker, and she was incredibly creative. She spent many happy hours restoring and up-cycling furniture, tending to her flower garden and Japanese Maple trees, and playing with our family dog, Mei.
Ruth is survived by her husband John, her children, Vanessa and Daniel, her stepdaughter, Jaclyn, her grandson, Lennox, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ruth’s legacy of care, humor, creativity, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her, she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
