Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Hassing
Margaret (Margi) Hassing, born April 27, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on March 10, 2025. Margi was in her 96th year.
Survived by her loving daughters Penny Boundy (Graham), and Sally Fur (Les).
Remembered by her four grandchildren: Scott Boundy (Alexa), Jacob Boundy, Alec Fur, Jaclyn Fur, her great granddaughter Briar Boundy, and niece Judy Ness.
Predeceased by her loving husband C. Bent V. Hassing, her father W. Robert M. Ness Q.C., her mother Helen (Booth) Ness, her brother R. George Ness Q.C., his wife Lorna and their daughter Susan Anderson.
Margi attended Moulton Ladies’ College (a Baptist girl’s school, formerly on Bloor Street East), and then Branksome Hall.
She worked at Eaton’s, and Creeds prior to joining Henry Birks and Sons, where she met Bent Hassing from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Margi and Bent were married in July of 1954 at York Minster Park Baptist Church. They took up residence in Bennington Heights and moved to Leaside in 1966 where she lived for 56 years.
After Bent’s passing in September of 1978, Margi volunteered at the Royal Ontario Museum and The Canadian Red Cross for many years.
She was a long-time member of the Sanctuary Guild and Flora McCrea Group at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church.
We would like to thank the caregivers, nurses and staff at Hazelton Place for their exceptional support and loving care over the past three years. Sincere thanks to the professional and compassionate nursing and medical teams at Mt. Sinai and Toronto General Hospital.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of love and compassion.
A Celebration of Margi's life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church (230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto).
