Obituary of Chris Stavrides

We will soon gather to remember and celebrate the life of Christopher. Chris was a caring, vibrant individual and a cherished son and friend. While faced with many physical challenges throughout his life, we want to focus on the extraordinary person Chris was and the impact he made on all of us.

Chris always showed tremendous resilience and courage in facing his daily challenges. Through a combination of support from loved ones and support workers, he remained a strong, determined, loving presence in our lives, never allowing his physical challenges to defined him.

Chris was passionate about his interests and delighted in sharing this with others and often found it to be a source of connection. His accomplishments brought him great pride and joy. He faced each day with courage and the indomitable spirit that define him.

Christopher passed away peacefully at Michael Garron Hospital on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Chris was born on June 25, 1987 at Mount Sinai Hospital to his adoring and loving parents Marika and John Stavrides. Chris was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and faced many physical challenges. As a family, Marika, John and Chris resided in the Beaches area of Toronto. Tragically when Chris was 5 years old, his father passed away. Marika and Chris continued their journey together, lovingly within the same area for the remainder of his life.

I believe that Chris’ purpose in life was to demonstrate that different does not mean less and went forth in life with determination to live life to the fullest. Chris was always pushing those who interacted with him to be more patient, more compassionate and understanding of his need to live a full life.

And so, even though Chris had his physical challenges, he had an enormous impact on all those with whom he came into contact. Everyone undoubtedly has a story or has heard a story that is so uniquely, entertainingly Chris.

Chris was very diversified in his interests and had a sense of adventure not to be denied. His smile would melt hearts and his sense of humour brought joy and laughter to all.

Chris loved very deeply. His family, friends and caregivers were very important to him. He was kind, caring and protective of those he loved. His favourite times were when he could organize special events to celebrate with people he loved, all gathered together. He was a planner and meticulously detailed. Nothing could be omitted or forgotten.

His accomplishments were many. He has met royalty, dignitaries and carried the torch for the Pan Am Games along University Avenue to name a few. He has also appeared in documentaries and drama productions and enjoyed travelling immensely. He had a very creative mind and was passionate about decorating and renovating.  One of his favourite hangouts was at Home Depot.

In summary, Chris had a way of making  everyone feel seen and heard. He could light up a room with his smile and make even the hardest days feel a little brighter. His kindness, humour and unwavering love left an imprint on all our lives. Life with Chris was full of adventure and laughter. He made an impact on everyone he met. His kindness and genuine love for others were truly unmatched.

He taught us all so much about how to live, how to show up for others, how to face challenges with courage and how to find beauty-even in the small moments whether it was through a small gesture or a simple smile. He had a gift for making people feel special.
