Obituary of Edward Ungar
Edward Ellis Ungar, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Toronto on April 8th, 2025.
Ed was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Isaac and Edith Ungar (Sharp). He was predeceased by his beloved son David and survived by his cherished daughters, Katy, Elizabeth, and his daughter-in-law Sara.
Ed was a graduate of Temple University, where he studied the sociology of humour. During his career in broadcasting, Ed worked both on and off air for networks like CBC Radio and CTV Television.
A diehard Eagles and Phillies fan, Ed’s passion for sports was second only to his love of politics. Ed was a political warrior. He volunteered tirelessly for Democrats Abroad and was a staunch advocate for Canada’s public health care system.
In addition, Ed took great comfort from his membership at City Shul Synagogue.
Funny, decent and kind, Ed will be deeply missed by his family, friends and community.
Private services will be held in Ed’s honour.
Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre of Toronto by using the Donations tab on his home page.
