Obituary of Karin Benedetti

Karin Benedetti passed away peacefully alongside her husband Jim, sons Marc and Stefano in the care of Dorothy Ley Hospice on Thursday, September 25th, 2025. A long-time resident of Etobicoke and Toronto, Karin spent the majority of her life in Canada, growing up in both St. Jean D’Hiberville and the south shore of Montreal after her family made the journey across the Atlantic Ocean by ship from England in the 1950s.

Born Karin Morris, her Welsh father Evan, German mother Frieda, and her brother, also Evan, began a new chapter in Quebec with Karin celebrating her second birthday on the voyage to Canada. She became fluent in English, French, and German, before later learning Italian while living in the state of Veneto in northern Italy. A traveller from a young age, Karin visited Iceland, Spain, and Morrocco on a solo trip during the summer before her 18th birthday. She majored in Philosophy at Concordia University in Montreal.

Karin met her first husband, Pietro, while working at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dusseldorf, Germany in the late 70s. After spending five years in Italy in Alte Ceccata close to Pietro’s family, the two of them moved to Toronto and started a family shortly after with the birth of Marc in 1989. They welcomed their second child Stefano in 1996.

Karin began her work in commercial mortgages as an underwriter at NN Life, a 40-year career that culminated with a senior role at Sun Life Financial. She made many friends along the way, many of who she was still in regular contact with up to the point of passing.

She met her second husband Jim in 2004 while he was coaching her son Marc at West Mall Hockey in Etobicoke. The two got married at Shaver house in a beautiful, intimate winter ceremony on January 9th, 2016.

Karin will be remembered for her kind spirit, empathy towards others, and utmost sacrifice for her two sons spending countless hours supporting them in hockey rinks, tennis courts, soccer fields, and karate dojos. Later in life, Karin became an avid fan of cruises, cruising the Caribbean and western Europe with her husband, and the Mediterranean with the entire family.

Karin is fondly remembered by her husband Jim, two sons Marc and Stefano, brother Evan, and countless others. She was given the ultimate sentence in April of this year, with a diagnosis of an aggressive form of uncurable brain cancer. Family, friends, and health professionals were by her side the entire journey that included stops at Princess Margaret Hospital, Sunnybrook Palliative Care, and Dorothy Ley Hospice.

A day of remembrance for Karin will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Montgomery's Inn (4709 Dundas Street West, at Islington, Etobicoke) with open-house visiting from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at which time at tribute for her will be delivered followed by a reception within the Tea & Briarly Rooms until 5 p.m. Parking is availalbe in the parking lot adjacent to the Inn.
