Obituary of Robert Frank Morelli

It is with overwhelming grief and shock that we acknowledge the untimely death of Robert Frank Morelli, O.M.P.  Surrounded by his family, Robert passed away on January 9th 2026 after developing ARDS as a result of influenza.

Robert has left behind an outstanding legacy as an exceptional manual osteopathic practitioner. He lived and breathed osteopathy for over 25 years. People flew in to be treated by him from around the world. Fearless and unphased by complex presentations, he treated people in all and every stage of life. A fierce believer in the tenets of osteopathic philosophy as set by its founder Andrew Taylor Still, Robert's palpatory skills were outstanding.

He was a visionary in terms of developing concise ways for the manual osteopathic practitioner to conduct assessments. At times he felt misunderstood by the osteopathic community of Ontario who in his opinion, in their quest for regulation, grew further and further away from the very heartbeat, foundation and trust of the discipline - palpation. He ardently believed and trusted that the information and knowledge one received via the hands in tandem with the tenets of osteopathy, had great healing power and potential to address the cause of dis-ease and help the patient move forward in health.

His method centered on refining the manual assessment to interpret each individual's unique adaptive patterns to pathology. He believed that the manual assessment was arguably the most powerful tool used by the osteopathic manual practitioner in order to fully realize the benefits of treatment.

He developed and taught three courses for graduated manual osteopathic practitioners on how to optimize one's practice from the moment of assessment to the end of a treatment and at the time of his death was in the process of writing a book on palpation.

Born in Yonkers, New York he graduated from the Jesuit college, Fairfield University (Connecticut) with a B.A in science and a minor in music.

As a boy it was his dream to become an ichthyologist (fish biologist) or a doctor but fate led him in a different direction. He traveled to Paris, France, where he became fluent in French, and ended up living there for 8 years, studying fine art and the art of French cuisine. His culinary skills excelled and culminated in him opening his own restaurant in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Robert was very gifted in the arts, indeed the epitome of the renaissance man, and was a remarkable artist of charcoal and ink drawing, collage and oil painting. He also worked in the North American film, television and theater industry for a number of years as an actor and was valued for his realistic, unadorned acting style.

At the age of 43 while working on the American television series Hoop Life - a drama about professional basketball players - he was inspired to go back to school after talking to the osteopath on set. Upon entry to the Canadian program at the Canadian College Of Osteopathy he was told by the registrar that they needed people like him in the program because he came to the discipline unbiased by previous therapeutic modalities. And so began his life as a manual osteopathic practitioner.

Married for 25 years to his loving wife Kim, he became stepdad to her four children, Cahill (partner, Ainsley), Zaire, Nyomi (husband, Patrick) and Cheyenne whom he loved dearly. What a time we had as a family! Time flew by and in 2021 the grandchildren started to come whom he absolutely adored - Soleil, Rowan, Maliah and Taya.

Loved by his sister, Francine (husband Tom) his brother Mark, as well as his niece Nancy, his sister-in-law Lorri and his mother-in-law Kay and numerous aunts, uncles, counsins, patients and friends. Robert was honoured to have been able to share his life with you.

Robert is predeceased by his loving parents Frank and Lousie Morelli and numerous relatives.

An enormous red-tailed hawk appeared at his window when first admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Humber River Hospital. The red-tailed hawk is thought to be a divine harbinger of change and transformation. A powerful guardian spirit symbolizing courage, resilience, clarity and unbridled self-expression - truly qualities that Robert possessed.

Fly high on these winds of change Robert.

You are free.

We celebrate you.

We thank you.

Aloha, Namaste, SO MUCH LOVE
