Obituary of Tarra Dunphy

Tarra was the most incredibly warm, caring person. She was terrible at social niceties like answering texts in a timely manner, or ever being on time, but uncannily always there with a bit of love or fuss whenever you needed it most. Birthdays and holidays will never be the same without her carefully crafted texts with multiple lines of emojis.

She was able to see straight into the heart of everyone she met, but instead of being terrifying, when you were seen by her it felt easier to let go of all the noise and just be your truest self - not your best, but the most honest, undiluted, version.

She grew up in Calgary, but escaped to Europe (London and Barcelona) in her twenties, and eventually settled in Toronto. She was a journalist, an editor, a stay-at-home mother, a financial advisor, a dance and creative movement teacher, a musician, a singer, a painter, a coach, and the heart and soul of Scotia Plaza. Wherever she went, she made it a brighter, better place.

Her finger was firmly on the pulse of classical music: she was forever recommending new and emerging musicians, particularly Canadian ones. She was also an avid reader of novels and biographies, across many genres, and her recommendations were always both interesting and excellent reads.

She is survived by her daughter, Noelle Rumball (father Donald Rumball; husband Sam), and her sister Jane Dunphy (husband Gordon) and brother Jeff Dunphy (wife Marie-Eve). She will forever be the beloved aunt of Alex and Emma Kohse, Camilla and Laurel Sherrett, and Carmen and Laine Dunphy. She lived and died surrounded by love.

Her Celebration of Life will be on February 12th at the Old Mill from 1-4pm.
