Obituary of David Gordon Pilgrim
In Loving Memory of David Pilgrim
A cherished son of the Caribbean spirit, David Pilgrim brought life, soul, and brilliance to the calypso tents of both Toronto and Trinidad. As a gifted trumpeter and respected sideman, his music carried the heartbeat of calypso across generations.
He shared the stage with and contributed his unmistakable sound alongside legends and celebrated bands including The Mighty Sparrow, Calypso Rose, Charlie’s Roots, David Rudder, the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment Band, the Troubadours, Ed Watson, Shadow (Winston Bailey), Arrow, Groovers International, and Supersonics Brass, just to name a few.
David was more than a musician. He was a father to Denise, Dane, Diane, and Delise. He was a grandfather, mentor, friend, and steadfast presence in the calypso community. His warmth, humour, and dedication to the art form will forever echo in every brass note and festival rhythm for generations to come.
Though the music pauses, his melody lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
“Gone from our sight, but never from our song.”
We invite you to share a favourite memory, photo or sentiment of David's life here at his memorial legacy page.
