Obituary of Dr. Hen Thoi Vo

(December 1, 1937 – August 29, 2026)

It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Dr. Hen Thoi Vo, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and respected physician whose life was defined by humility, perseverance, compassion, and service to others.

Born on December 1, 1937, in Long Xuyen, Vietnam, Hen Thoi Vo lived a life that, by his own accord, was simple and ordinary. Yet to those who knew and loved him, his life was anything but ordinary. His quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and boundless kindness left an indelible mark on his family, friends, colleagues, and patients.

Dr. Vo began practicing medicine in Vietnam in the early 1970s, embracing a profession that would become both his life's work and his calling. In 1979, he and his family came to Canada as refugees, seeking a new beginning. Imposed with the challenges of starting over in a new country, he demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination. Through years of perseverance and hard work, he successfully regained his medical license and continued his vocation as a Canadian physician.

As a general practitioner, Dr. Vo was deeply committed to caring for his patients. He believed medicine was more than a profession; it was a way to help others. His patients often became his friends, and he treated everyone who entered his office with dignity, compassion, and most importantly, respect. He continued practicing medicine until the age of 80, working in his beloved office on Queen Street - Toronto, doing what he loved most - helping people.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Vo's greatest pride was his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, a kind and generous father, and an endearing grandfather. He had a special and unique bond with each of his children and grandchildren, offering unwavering support, thoughtful guidance, and unconditional love. Through his actions rather than his words, he taught the values of integrity, perseverance, humility, and compassion. He led by example and inspired all of us to become better people.
