Obituary of Christina O'Dwyer

The O'Dwyer family of Simcoe is sad to announce the passing of our Aunt, Christina O'Dwyer at the age of 92.

Christina was born in 1925 in Kilfinae, Kilmallock, County Limerick, Ireland, into a family of 7 children. As adults, she and her siblings eventually moved to England to start new careers. During that time WWII broke out and Chris and her siblings served in the British forces until the war ended. Afterwards, Chris found employment with the British government for many years.
Christina loved to travel, taking herself all over Europe. Eventually her travels brought her to Canada. She came to live in Simcoe for a time with her younger brother John (Paddy) O'Dwyer, his wife Gladys and their 6 children. She stayed in Simcoe, educating herself to work as a Health Care Aid in the local hospital. She also tried her hand at co-owning and running a small café. Interest in small town life seemed to fade, and Christina's next path led her to move to Mississauga where she returned to health care work for many years. After her eventual retirement, Chris stayed involved in her Seniors co-op building, did community and volunteer work, and enjoyed long walks to stay active. She could always be counted on to help her neighbours, work in the co-op garden and help plan building social events.

As she grew older and could no longer live independently Christina moved to Chester Village Long-Term Care Home in Toronto, where she passed away bouts with illness.
She will be remembered fondly for her sense of humour, sharp wit, independence, feisty outlook on life, and her love for her family. She is survived by one younger sibling William (Bill) O'Dwyer and his family in England. Also survived by her nieces and nephews from Simcoe: Sean, Colleen, Maureen, Sharon, Kerry, Tammy O'Dwyer and their spouses and children. She will be sadly missed by all.

Please share in your memories, photos and sentiments of her here at her memorial website.
