KORKOLA, Dale Shawn Gunnar
Dale Shawn Gunnar Korkola passed away from heart related issues at his home in Mississauga on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the age of 58. Dale was predeceased by his parents, Marguerite (Peggy) Joy Spencer and Gunnar Eric Korkola.
He is lovingly remembered by his brothers Shawn (Colleen) and Kerry Korkola of Kingston, loving nieces Katrina, Kirsten and Natalie. Dale is missed dearly by his best friend Mark Finnegan from Mississauga, other friends and relatives.
He began his life in Thunder Bay, Ontario where he was born in 1959. At the age of five, his parents separated and his mother Peggy moved herself and sons to Toronto and then settled in Kingston. Dale was an excellent hockey player and played for the Kingston All-Star team. Unfortunately, a knee injury resulted in him having to give up this loved sport.
Dale moved in with his father Gunnar (Linda) in his late teens in Southern Ontario where he learned to weld from his father. He fell in love and married Anne from Kitchener who gave him his son Adam. Their romantic relationship among others ended however he held onto the many fond memories. Dale was a proud grandfather to Adam’s daughter Natasha.
He worked in the construction industry for three decades and was skilled in the trades of carpet installation, welding, roofing, siding and framing. Construction sites are dangerous and unfortunately, Dale retired after falling from a roof and suffered a near fatal work injury resulting in back surgery and rod implants.
The last decade of Dale’s life was spent living with his bestie Mark Finnegan and his second mom Patricia in Mississauga. Mark and Dale enjoyed hanging out on their patio, shopping excursions at Walmart among other fun adventures.
Dale was known by many as a good hearted man who did not have a bad word to say about anybody. A great neighbor! He loved car shows, anything Harley Davidson, watching HGTV home renovation and car restoration shows. Dale loved animals, especially Bandit, a little Jack Russel who he always bought an extra bag of honey ham for when grocery shopping along with other doggy treats. He enjoyed music, mostly Classic Rock. His brother Shawn attributes getting his love for this music genre from his brother Dale who brought home the albums Aerosmith Get Your Wings and Led Zeppelin 4 for them to listen to.
“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
