Dear Elizabeth, Tim, Jean, Leticia, Doug, James, Clarisa and Fiona, thinking of you all and sending you many thoughts and prayers as you miss James - your husband, your Dad, your father-in-law, your grandfather. He was a kind man of great spirit - very much of this earth - and there is a part of him in each one of you. Lots of love in this difficult time as you miss him and grieve his passing. Lots of love to all of you, Paula

What a kind and generous man Mr. Griffin was. My sincerest condolences to Mrs Griffin, Tim, Jean and their families. I read with pleasure and admiration (and a chuckle or two) the stories of his life written here. What collection of stories! A life well lived indeed, taken too soon.

I'll never forget the support Jim passed on to me at an Ontario Randonneurs Awards Dinner in Toronto a few years ago. He mentioned what had happened to him during a Fleche several years earlier and convinced me, that I would recover over time (Herpes Encephalitis Story) and to simply stay positive! As the years went by I was fortunate to see Jim at Awards dinners or chat with him during Ontario Radonneur Conference calls. Rest in Peace Jim.

To the Family of Jim Griffin: My relationship with Jim was confined to several brevets I had the opportunity to participate in during the early 1990's. I never would have attempted these very challenging events if it were not for the encouragement and support of riders like Jim (and Geoff Gadd). These stalwarts were my coach, my guru and my compatriot. Without their guidance and enthusiasm, I never would have embraced this sport and persisted when it would have been so easy to quit. It is their dogged determination, their toughness and their stoicism that taught me some very important lessons, not just about cycling, but about life. The most vital being that you just don't quit when the going gets tough. You just keep going. Jim helped to teach me that character is the most important quality a person can possess in life. Honest, determined, remorseless effort conquers all. You can never be successful in cycling, or in life, without the character that Jim embodied. He is an example to us all of what we should strive for. Whenever I despair about the state of the planet, the future of the Greenbelt of Ontario, and life in general, I remember there are people out there like Jim who really care. It is people like Jim that give me hope for the future. I forget who said: 'Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I feel hopeful for the future'. It is the adults on bicycles that will show us the way. Jim, in his own quiet way, showed me what is possible. For that, I will be eternally grateful. Thank You Jim. Rest In Peace Now.
Bill Covey.

Tim and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I never had the opportunity to actually cycle with Jim, we had communicated several times and he was always very interesting and provided me with valuable cycling information and advice. May he always have a nice tailwind. Ralph
