Obituary of Maurice P. Hill
Maurice passed away with a smile on his face and gladness in his heart late on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He is mourned, remembered and cherished by his wife, Katy, his children Bruce (Diane), Timothy (Marilyn), Victoria, Suzie, Patrick (Frances), and Jane (Tim), and by his grandchildren, Becky and Jeremy (Christina), Raffi, Gabe, and Jordan, who called him “Mossy”, Mathew (Micale), Nathan, Logan, Heather (Greg), Caroline (Ross), Elizabeth (Antoine), Tim, and Emmy, who called him Grandpa, and great grand-children, James, Max, and Arlo. It was with great courage that he and his wife brought their five youngsters to Canada from the U.K. on St. Patrick’s Day 1965 so that their children might have greater opportunities than were then on offer in post-war England. His sixth child, Jane, was born in Mississauga the year following. Following a long and distinguished career at the University of Toronto he retired and travelled widely with Katy, and pursued his life-long interest in ornithology, until he was severely disabled with arthritis. In recent times he found a caring community in St. Elizabeth’s Village in Hamilton. He was a good provider for his family. He will be interred during a private ceremony amidst the sounds of the birds and the greenery and natural beauty of the hamlet of Jordan on the Niagara Peninsula, a place which was always dear to him and Katy. We shall not see his like again. He will be missed, and always remembered in our hearts and minds. The family thanks, and was most impressed with, the staff of St. Peter’s, Hamilton.
