Obituary of Jojo Peter Grima

GRIMA.  On October 19, JOJO, in Toronto, Canada, aged 84, passed away surrounded by his family, comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his wife Maryan née Preca, his children Karen and her husband Gary, Gisel and her husband Paul and Dany, his grandchildren, who he loved so much, his sisters Mona Aquilina and Sunie Preziosi, his in-laws Joseph and Venera, Sandra and Rico and Angela, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. Lord Grant him eternal rest.

A Funeral Mass will take place at Corpus Christi Church (16 Lockwood Rd, Toronto) at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, followed by the Rite of Committal at St. John’s Norway Cemetery. A celebration of life will then follow at 16 Hambly Avenue, Toronto.

The Wonderful Life of Jojo Grima

Jojo Peter Grima (also known as Joseph Peter Grima or 'Nonny') was born in Valletta, Malta on March 27, 1935. Eccentric and rambunctious since his birth, Jojo went on to live a colourful life in Malta before immigrating to Toronto Canada in 1965 with his wife Maryan and children Karen, Gisel and Dany. The family returned to Malta in 1967 to help with a family business before succumbing to their itchy feet and hitting the road in their tiny Simca. They drove through Europe, eventually taking a boat from England to New York. From New York, they drove and picnicked their way to Vancouver where Jojo got his BA in one year at Simon Fraser. Soon after, Jojo received a full scholarship to attain an MA in Political Science at Dalhousie University. Naturally, the family embarked on another cross-continent road trip to Halifax, because why not? In 1973 the family made their final move to Toronto; Jojo worked for 10 years as a Human Rights Officer for the Ontario Human Rights Commission, before hanging up his suit to open a Mystery Bookshop with Maryan. They made their home in the Beaches and welcomed ten very good-looking grandchildren into the family over the span of 13 years. In retirement, Maryan and Jojo enjoyed travelling through the United States, Central America and Europe; going out with friends; and hanging out with their daughters and grandchildren.
