Obituary of Robert John Calligan

Robert John Calligan

August 13, 1946 – April 21, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert John Calligan, on Tuesday April 21, 2020 at the age of 73.

Predeceased by his Mother, Janet M. Calligan (April 12, 2020) and his Father Thomas J Calligan (July 20, 1986)

A loving brother to Karen, (Jack) Petrie, and Theresa (Frank) Dale and remembered dearly by his niece and nephews, Jennifer (Neil) McKillop, Michael (Lindsay) Dale & Jonathan (Caleigh) Dale; and Great Uncle to Thomas, Jordan and Nicholas.

Bob was a lifelong Toronto sports fan and a devoted follower of the Leafs & Blue Jays.

Bob was an avid reader, a hard worker, and enthusiastic car buff. He was especially proud to own a 1968, Ford Mustang.  He enjoyed playing hockey even into his later years with his buddies on a weekly basis.

Bob was a kind, thoughtful & gentle person with a good sense of humour.

He had a tremendous love of family and was a good friend to all who knew him.  Bob also had a very special relationship with his niece & nephews.

Music was a favorite pastime. Bob was a very talented musician, and played drums and the saxophone in a band for many years and sometimes took over vocal duties.  He was a good singer & dancer.

Bob was a victim of a tragic hit & run car accident which drastically changed his quality of life.  He spent his last 8 years at a Long Term Care Home.

Our Family would like to thank the caring staff at Hawthorne Place.  A special thanks to Lucy.

In the midst of the new corona virus pandemic one of the greatest challenges of these very turbulent times is not being able to grieve in person with our dearest family and friends.

The family will be holding a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made using the links in the heading of his memorial webpage to:  Diabetes Canada, Epilepsy Canada, or a charity of your choice.

Please share your memories, photos and sentiments of his life here.
