Naji Farah

Obituary of Naji Farah

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Naji Salim Farah announce his passing on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at the age of 87.

Naji will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mimi; his children Khaled (Jumana), Nada (Mohamad), Sawsan (Wael) and Laila (Clint); his grandchildren Aiyman, Omar, Umayya, Dounya, Rami and little Naji; by his surviving siblings Bahia, Leila, Fuad, and Labeeb; and by his other family members and numerous friends in Shefa-Amr and Canada.

Naji was born on May 17, 1933, to a prominent and loving family, in the then little town of Shefa-Amr, Palestine, where he grew up, played, went to school, met his wife, got married, had his children, and formed countless friendships from all walks of life, as well as diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Before moving to Canada with his family in 1978, Naji was a teacher at the Saint John's Episcopal School in Haifa, founded in 1868, then became its principal in 1973, spending 22 years there.

Naji was well-loved and respected by all those who had met him, including his students, most of whom credit him with instilling the love of the Arabic language, history and culture into them, including, maybe rather surprisingly, the love of grammar. Naji was also an avid reader, a free thinker, a powerful orator, a prolific writer and a great fighter for justice and human rights for all. He went through life with dignity and respect, for himself and those around him.Visitation will be held at the eco Life Celebration Centre located at the Magnolia Chapel of St. John's Dixie Cemetery & Crematorium., 737 Dundas Street East, Mississauga at Cawthra,  on Thursday, August 6, 2020, 2:30 to 5:00 pm and Friday, August 7, 2020, 4:00 to 6:00 pm.  COVID-19  Governmental regulations restrict the number of people to 50 within the building at any given time, so please bear this in mind as you may be asked to wait paitiently before entering.
