Obituary of Nesta Pougnet
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Nesta Pougnet (nee Pochont), at the age of 97, on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at The Wexford Residence, in Scarborough, Ontario. Nessie (as she was affectionately called) was the youngest of eight children and was predeceased by her parents (Albert and Bertha Pochont) and her brother and sisters.
Loving and beloved wife to the late Cecil Pougnet (1969), Nessie leaves behind so many people who loved her dearly, including her devoted children, Arlene (Norton), Pamela (Amit), Peter, Lorraine (Krishnan), and Patricia (Roger); all the loving grandchildren that she had a hand in raising, Abigail (Zain), Amanda (Rick), Nina (Aleks), Robin, Menka (Akilesh), Stacey (Marc), Kris-Ann (Tom), Paige (Andrew), and Megan; and all the great grandchildren that she delighted in, Zach, Luka, Myles, Nayan, Kiran, Aryan, Anik, Satya, Aroha, Olive, and Violet.
Born in Hubli, Karnataka, India, in 1923, Nessie called many cities and continents home, including many cities in South India, Dubai, and Toronto. Nessie left a lasting impression on anyone who met her or was lucky enough to have her as their English or ATCL-trained Music teacher.
There are so many things we loved and will miss about our dear Nessie. Her kindness and generosity. The grace and courage with which she lived every day of her life. Her spirit of adventure and love of laughter. How much she loved music and playing her piano, and the joy it brought her to share her music with her family and friends.
On Nesta’s behalf, we’d like to thank the staff at The Wexford Residence for caring for our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, over the past two and a half years in long term care. And to the whole Wexford community for being her friend and her home for the past twelve years.
