Obituary of Gary James Wainman

APRIL 20, 1946 – JANUARY 19, 2021

FENWICK, ONTARIO

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of GARY JAMES WAINMAN.

GARY passed away peacefully at his home, January 19, 2021 after a long courageous battle with cancer, with his loving wife Janet of 38 years and his daughter Andrea, by his side.

Gary was born in St. Catharines and raised in Thorold, Ontario. Gary was predeceased by his parents, Fred James Wainman and Irene Edith (Wills), Brother Billy and his son David Gary Wainman.

He is survived by his brother Richard (Joan) Wainman and sister Lana (David) Serafino. Brother- in- law to John (Diane) Berkiw, Susan Berkiw & Judy (Vic) Mantler. Grandfather to Nathaniel, Theo and Josie. Cousin to Denny and Tom Wainman and Diane Decker (Wainman) many nieces, nephews and special friends who were all a big part of his life.

Gary was a very kind hearted, generous, caring man who went above and beyond for his family and friends. Gary’s good sense of humor and joking around made everyone comfortable being with him and everyone greatly respected him.

Gary loved to work on cars at a young age and worked in a body shop in Thorold as a cleanup boy. There he was also shown how to repair cars. They saw potential in Gary, therefore he studied to get his body repair and paint license and received his diploma of “Unibody Vehicle Collision Damage Repair Program”. He opened his own body shop business “BODYMASTERS” and continued until retirement. Gary was a perfectionist with his work. His perfectionism and expertise through “word of mouth” attracted a huge cliental especially with high end vehicles as Gary had the eye for matching the perfect paint to any vehicle. Gary went above and beyond for all his clients.

Gary’s musical idol was Elvis Presley. He loved his music and was a huge fan with a large memorabilia. His daughter Andrea bought him round trip tickets to Graceland in Memphis and this was a trip he loved very much. Gary toured Graceland and Sunrise Studios, which left lasting memories he cherished.

We will always carry Gary’s memories close to our hearts.
