I met Leon at a convalescent home while we were recovering from our ailments. We sat at the same table for meals and bonded. His room was next to mine so many visits ensued. I enjoyed the many stories of his fascinating life. He informed me of his prison stays plus his swimming pool sales adventures. When I would go to the local convenience store, he would ask me to buy Lindt chocolate, but I refused because I did not wish to be his enabler, as he was diabetic.
After we were discharged, we often spoke on the phone. He once visited me so that I could help him create and submit the proper documents for him to remain in Canada. It was successful. I miss his easy going personality.
