Obituary of Serapio Ittusardjuat

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Serapio Ittusardjuat—an author, language specialist, and cultural advisor. Serapio participated in our Inuktitut terminology meetings advising on terms about weather, hunting, and traditional knowledge. He was involved in the Tunngasuvvingat Inuit in Ottawa and Toronto. He also performed in schools and provided presentations throughout Ontario. He has tremendously contributed his knowledge about walruses and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit to the researcher community in Igloolik.

Serapio was the author of How I Survived: Four Nights on the Ice— a graphic novel based on his lived experience surviving on the sea ice after a snowmobile breakdown.

He will be missed.

Serapio will be repatriated to Igloolik where his Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will take place.

We invite you to share your memories, photos and sentiments of his life here at his memorial web page.
