Obituary of Loredana Kun

I don’t know where Heaven is, but it cannot be too far because I can feel her in my embrace.

Loredana was born in Dubrovnik, the jewel of the Croatian Adriatic. That place continued to inspire her all her life and she wished to return there one day and live by her beloved sea.

Later she moved to Split, where she completed her studies in Philology, Arts, Music and Medicine. She excelled in everything she did and in her mid-20’s she earned her doctorate in Philology and Literature, becoming the youngest Dr. in Croatia. From teaching catholic priests Latin, to composing music, lyrics, writing and publishing poetry, winning top prizes and medals at music festivals, she did it all with passion and dedication.

She also worked full time as a journalist/reporter for a major Croatian publication, as head of the arts and cultural department, and as such obtained interviews with leading European and visiting American actors, singers, and other celebrities. She was very successful doing that and made many friends.

When the Balkan War in Yugoslavia broke out, she had to leave the country and came to Toronto having been offered a sabbatical at University of Toronto. Later she transferred to York University, joining the Division of Humanities, and teaching mostly “Worlds of Ancient Rome and Greece”, “Myth and Imagination” and “Religious Studies”.

Loredana was also a Naturopathic and Homeopathic practitioner, and as such she helped lots of people. She worked often “pro bono” for many people who struggled financially.

She continued her passion and talent for painting and writing. She has paintings in many houses of friends and published numerous books, in the field of Roman and Greek history, arts and health books.

Above all, Loredana was an extremely charismatic, warm, generous and a truly good and loving person. From her students at university to her patients and friends, she was seen as larger than life and deeply loved and respected.

For me, she was a dream partner with her amazing Mediterranean healthy cooking, love for travel, arts, and my primary health watcher. I credit her saving my life, many times over.

She was also a great and very loving mother, and her relationship with our daughter was truly special. Our amazing, smart, and talented daughter, who eventually became a lawyer was helped by Loredana who had the love and psychological skills to guide and support Sara all the way to success in her career.

It's hard for me to imagine my life without Loredana because we were truly one and inseparable entities.

Given our health experience, we would love to have donations made to the Sunnybrook Hospital or Heart and Stroke Foundation or the the Kun family via EFT to kungeo1206@gmail.com.
