I remember U. Alec as a very jovial person. Sensitive and caring to the needs of others. When ever we met we talked about Goa and Feni. Will surely miss him. Pray that the good Lord grant him Eternal life and that his soul rest in peace. My heartfelt sympathies and condolences to Jude, Karen , Lisel and the family.

A Grandfather must be many things; selfless, funny, stern, loving, caring, steadfast, and our Grandpa was all of this, and much more for us.
A Grandfather must be an adventurer with boundless energy. He took us to Jogger’s Park to feed the ducks and other water birds, he took us on hunts for hermit crabs and fish at the rocks, he took us to the fish markets to see all the cool and weird fish, he took us on his walks all over Bandra, and every walk was an adventure with Grandpa.
A Grandfather must be a jester and a joker, and to us, he was one of the funniest people in the world. He took us on drives, to nowhere in particular. He would drive us around because we simply just liked riding in cars. He would fold his arms and steer with his knees, and we would roar with laughter – how can he drive the car without his hands??? It was hilarious. He would carry us in his arms for hours on end, so that we could poke the peeling paint next to the windowsill in his bedroom… “DING-KOO” he would say, and we would laugh like it was the first joke we had ever heard.
A Grandfather must be a calming, dependable presence in a turbulent world. As you all know, Grandpa loved singing. Whenever we couldn’t sleep, or were worried, or scared, he would sing to us, in his calming, baritone voice, “I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you, and I’d think you myself, ‘What a wonderful world’”. Everyone knows that song by Nat King Cole, but for us, with Grandpa’s voice in our memories, it will forever be a classic song by Grandpa.
A Grandfather must be able to grow and nurture all things around him. Grandpa always loved Joybelle’s paintings, and enquired about them in earnest, despite his declining vision. Joybelle sent her paintings to India. Every week grandpa would tell her about all the people he showed her paintings to, and how proud he was. He would always tell Joybelle to never listen to critics when it came to her passions, and to reach for the stars! Without Grandpa's encouragement, Joybelle would not be the motivated, and strong willed individual she is today.
A Grandfather must be a wise, kind role-model. He spent a whole day with us, collecting hermit crabs down by the rocks, near Jogger’s Park. We took them home and only then began to realise that they wouldn’t survive in a small bucket. Rather than throw them away, Grandpa found a big plastic tub, to which he added water. We then told him they needed salt water, so he then added salt to make saltwater. We then told him the crabs need rocks to rest. So, he went out and found rocks. He had many chances to get angry at us and tell us to forget about the hermit crabs, but he didn’t. Grandpa saw the value of life and he taught us a valuable lesson – all life is precious no matter how small and seemingly insignificant.
Grandpa's must be many things, adventurous, humorous, wise, dependable and nurturing role models. Grandpa, you are many things to us… but most importantly, you are OUR beloved Grandpa.
