We will miss you, Ernie. Your bright smile and love of fun were always there when you welcomed us for a visit.
We are so sad for you, Fran, but know that you feel fortunate to have rekindled what you had as teenagers. May you soon regain your strength and find happiness in your memories.

Ernie with his infectious smile was such a pleasant neighbor to have.
I especially remember fondly his birthday party at Cedarbrook with cake and champagne. Ernie just kept smiling a smile I'll remember for a long time.

Having Ernie in mom’s life since our dad passed has been a blessing. His positive demeanour, his sense of humour, that great smile, his willingness to help out brought so much happiness to my mom. Telling our friends how they were teenage sweethearts that were reunited in their twilight years always brought a warm smile. So grateful to have known him and to have him as part of our family.

I’m so sorry Pam and family on the loss of Uncle Ernie. I have many good memories of him- at grandmas and visiting him at his lake home. Although it’s been a long time since I’ve seen him I will always remember his laugh!

I met Fran and Ernie as part of a monthly dinner evening between various neighbors. From the moment I met Ernie I felt a kinship with him. Though Ernie was quite, if you listened closely you would hear his dry sense of humour accompanied by a cheeky smile (or grin really). When Ernie moved to Ceadarbrook Lodge I was more than happy to accompany Fran to visit him at a least twice a week. Ernie affectionately referred to me as "the sidekick" or "the other one". We quickly developed a routine that involved brief exercise, mostly walking the halls and chatting about his life, and then we headed off to the main floor lounge for some coffee and a treat. Ernie loved his treats and I was only too happy to help keep his stock full - his particular favourites were shortbread cookies and carrot muffins. As others have stated, Ernie also had a love of music, which was never more apparent than when he attended "Music with Paddy" on Fridays. While I am sorry to hear about Ernie's passing, I know that the last few months have been tough. I hope that Ernie has found rest and peace, and my thoughts are with Fran and Ernie's family at this time. I dearly miss Ernie, but will always remember the good times that we shared.

I remember mom telling me about a charming guy she knew from her youth, who was so popular at dances that girls would line up to be with him. Fortunately, mom was also a good dancer, and it was uphill from there.
She & Ernie lost touch and went on to have good family lives, but found that they were alone in their senior years. What a miracle that they met up and once again became a couple! When I tell people about their love story, they say it sounds like a book or a movie. About 10 years ago, I submitted their story for a Valentine's contest, and they won 1st prize: a romantic weekend train trip to a beautiful hotel in Quebec City.
What a wonderful addition Ernie was to our family!

Ernie and I go way back to when we were teenagers in Kipling, Ont. We started seriously dating a few years later. As often happens, life took us on separate paths, but when we both were once again single, we reunited.
We had many happy years together before dementia gradually took over. But I got to be with him and hold his hand at the end, as we had so many years before.
