Jeoffrey D’Souza

Obituary of Jeoffrey D’Souza

Jeoffrey D’Souza, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, passed away in the early morning hours of October 31, 2022 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Jeoffrey D’Souza was born the eldest of 6 children on August 26, 1935 to parents John and Clara D’Souza in Mangalore, India.

He attended school at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore after which he moved to Vizaq, Andhra Pradesh and worked at the CalTex Oil Refinery.

He married Eileen Aranha of Mangalore on February 4, 1963 and they settled in Vizaq raising their family there till 1977. The family then moved to Bombay in the summer of 1977, a year after Jeoffrey found employment with ADCO, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. He retired after 19 years of service in 1995 and returned home to Bombay, India to enjoy his retired life with his wife and family.

He immigrated to Canada in 2013 to be closer to his daughters, who now reside in Brampton, Canada; Brownstown and North Andover, USA; and Perth, Australia.

Jeoffrey rose from very humble beginnings by the dint of sheer hard work. Ever the storyteller, he often recounted tales about his meager childhood, always tempered with adulation for his mother and filled with retellings of rambunctious times with his siblings despite their hardships. He never looked back with sadness over what he didn’t have, but always cited it as the incentive to work hard and make a better life for his family.

He loved hosting family and friends for any reason and no reason at all. You never went home without a meal when you visited him.

He loved sharing a good scotch, singing Konkani songs, and swapping tales of his beloved Mangalore, which he foreverloved and held dear to his heart to the end.

He is survived by his wife Eileen; his daughters Diana Pinto (Mark), Doreen Sequeira (Terrence), Daphne D’sa (Julius) and Daisy Pais (Ivan); his grandchildren Elisha (Peter), Kevin, Amber, Dillon, Adine, Joshua, Jayden, Caitlin, Cristina and Angela; and his great grandchildren Olivia and Caleb.

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Lancelot (Jean), Thomas (late Hilda), Leena (late Richard), Jane; his sister-in law Patricia (late Raymond); and his many nephews and nieces  and cousins.
