Obituary of Olivia Statler
It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Olivia Aliyah Statler, 48, suddenly and without warning of an aneurysm in the left side of her brain, just after midnight into Wednesday September 20, 2023 in Toronto. Livia is survived by her husband, Jonathan Sydor, and her many chosen family and friends, including her "fuzzy family", cats Tigger and Chubb Chubb.
Livia lived her life trying to help others. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Queen's University, Belfast, and a Masters equivalent post-graduate certificate in Art Therapy from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute. Her major graduate project on self-portraiture allowed many women (including trans women) an outlet to express who they truly are. It was selected for portfolio review by the prestigious CONTACT Photography Festival.
Livia also wrote and recorded many meditations on the platform Insight Timer, where she amassed 1.7k followers. Livia said that she wrote the meditations that she herself needed, and was glad that they touched so many others. One of the many meditations dealt with grief. Her meditations can be found at https://insighttimer.com/oliviastatler
Livia loved all forms of the arts. She found joy in dancing every day. She had a wonderful and unique eye for photography, and was always experimenting with different ways to create paintings or other visual art. Recently she rediscovered her love of playing music, and was learning the ukulele with gusto.
Livia was passionate about the environment and the threat that climate change poses. To this end, in lieu of flowers people are asked to make a donation to Nature Conservancy Canada. Please use the Donations tab on her home page.
