Peggy and I worked together at Clement Center in Cleveland in the late 1980's. It was a difficult job because the city was in the middle of a crack cocaine epidemic and we would see very tragic things like kids being taken away from their addicted mothers, women prostituting themselves to buy drugs. Peggy and I had many evenings where we would decompress by phone after a days work. She was an avid women's rights advocate and we went to a prochoice march in Washington together. It was during a time when we were told we could lose family planning funding if we mentioned the word abortion to our patients. Peggy would denounce this at meetings.
At one point the workers at our hospital went out on strike and Peggy and I decided to support them by not crossing the picket line. We would join the picket line daily, and at the end of the strike the workers took us out to dinner to honor us for our support.
I was sorry when she moved to Toronto.

What a great picture of Peggy with the sign, with Jack Layton's quote. It so captures her. She was a wonderful, amazing person, a much-cherished colleague (for 13 years) and a dear friend. Nobody else like her in the whole world. She made the world a better place. I miss her.
Hugs to you Catherine, and Jody. You are in my thoughts.
