Just found this notice. I worked with George in the mid 70’s and carpooled for a time as well. I moved to Ottawa in 1990 as a result of a chance discussion with George, who as always, knew of opportunities before anyone else did. I made a great career decision as a result and often reflect on the benefit I got from deciding to call George just to touch base. A great personality and a guy that was fun to be around. All fond memories of George.

Dear Maureen & Family:
I was very sorry to learn of George's passing. I was in Toronto for another function so I was pleased to be able to attend the Mass. The Grandchildren did a wonderful job of reading and procession of Gifts. James did a lovely talk about is dad and family. It was very touching. Take care and maybe in do time we can get together.

I met George in the mid-nineties when we joined St. John's parish. Walter Godsoe, who was counting the collection all by himself, was replaced by 5 teams of 4 people each, who counted on a rotating basis. George and I were on the same team and I always enjoyed his good humour and gentle nature. He knew some of the people I used to work with, such as Tom Marshall. When I told George that my husband and I need a babysitter, George suggested contacting his son Keith.
Over the years I became accustomed to seeing George and His growing family at Mass. It has been a pleasure to see his grandchildren at the Children's Liturgy Program.
I will miss this kind and good man.

Our greatest sympathies to you all on the loss of George, your wonderful husband, Dad, Grandad and Father in Law. Words always seem empty at times like these but the memories we all hold and share in our hearts will enable George to live on. We will always remember the incredible kindness that George showed us as two Aussies away from home and the way he 'adopted us' and immediately filled a fatherly role in making sure we got home safely to London and got to the airport on time! We remember his rye smile at the constant banter at the MacDonald dinner table and how much he enjoyed it all. Then there were the great chats in the quiet of the car rides, where he took it upon himself to answer all the questions we had about Canadian life and history. Though there is great distance between us, know that we will be thinking of you all and sending you our love, strength and support during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, George.
