Obituary of Barry Herbert Dennis Davenport
Barry Davenport (Grandpa Bear) passed away September 29 seemingly without pain of B cell lymphoma with his devoted partner Irene at his side.
Barry is survived by his two younger brothers Doug (Dianne) and Wayne (Lynda), daughter Jill (Paul), and son Brett.
When he was about 14 years old, while still attending school, Barry started working part-time as a delivery boy for a drug store to earn income to help support his widowed mother and small family with 3 boys. He wanted to play the violin, but his mother was too poor to afford violin lessons.
All his life, he worked hard and played hard. He was a very generous man but he had some anger management problems. He drank heavily at one point and did things that he was not proud of, but had also done many things to help others out without ever expecting any returns.
He often wished that he could have used his brains instead of his brawn to earn a living. He was a very skillful truck driver. He also worked as a salesman but did not like that too much. Later in life, he enjoyed and did an excellent job cutting grass at a golf course. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed mowing the lawn and clearing the snow, always done to perfection. He regretted that he never had a mentor when he was young to encourage him to become someone more in life, like becoming a doctor or a lawyer.
