Having taught with Rick for 25 years, I saw over time what a humble yet most influential person he was to students and staff. He was quietly innovative in his methods including workout space and exercise bikes to help his students decompress during class time, art as an always available option, and enrichment in all forms. His extra curricular choir had an unforgettable sound and I can still recall the most beautiful rendition of “Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella “ I have ever heard. His sense of humour , fun and environmentally conscious concern was an example I certainly took to heart. I remember him, and times with his effervescent Janet, as some of the formative and beautiful years. I’m sure his boys and their families cherished him and miss Him every day.

To Chris, Adrian and family. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. I met Richard 24 years ago when I started working at the Arthritis Society. He has become a dear friend over the years. I will miss our chats about football which he loved and will miss seeing his smiling face at the office. He was always so positive and was always willing to lend a helping hand. I will miss running into him at Scarborough Town Centre where we would sit and have a coffee. We will miss him dearly but we have very fond memories. It was a privilege to get to know him over the years. I am glad I had the opportunity to see him, chat and hug before he passed away.

Dear. Christopher, Adrian, and family. As a member of the Arthritis Society team, I often encountered Richard in the halls as he made his way to his volunteer work with us, and we had wonderful and wide-ranging conversations. I remember him so fondly for his warmth, his genuine interest in the world, his engaging conversation and smile, his positive outlook, and of course for the many contributions he made to the Arthritis Society’s work. We will miss him greatly and send sincere condolences to you all. May his energy and commitment to a better world shine forever in your hearts as it will in ours. Warmly, Cheryl McClellan
