Raimund Rieder

Obituary of Raimund Wolfgang Rieder

August 31st, 1949 – February 8th, 2021

Raimund passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Bowmanville Hospital on February 8th, 2021 at the young age of 71. Raimund was a devoted and loving husband. He was most proud of his children and he was known for his love of life. He was an extremely hard working man who had more than one career throughout his working years.

Raimund is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Christiane. He was a devoted father to Tania (Clifford) and Philip (Ashley), as well as a cherished Opa to Tristan and Callia.

A lifelong lover of the water, Raimund worked for several years in the hospitality industry aboard transatlantic cruise ships and travelled extensively from the Eastern seaboard of the United States to the fiords of Scandinavia and Coastal Europe. Later in life Raimund spent as much time as he possibly could on the water aboard his various sailboats “Wayfarer”, “Sirius 21”, “Nebulous” and “California Girl”. Raimund enjoyed the competitive club racing and his time at the Lakeshore Yacht Club where he and his various crews won multiple club awards.

After many long years working in the hospitality industry and earning the title of General Manager at the Valhalla Inn in Toronto, Raimund decided that it was time for a big career change. That meant going back to school (Humber College) as a nearly 40-year-old man and graduating from Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Environmental Systems program with honours. This big change paved the way for Raimund to open his own small business “Page Heating and Air Conditioning” which he operated until his retirement at the age of 65. For nearly 25 years, Raimund built long lasting friendships with his clients enhancing their indoor comfort by providing professional and reliable heating and cooling services.

The years after his retirement proved challenging due to various health ailments but they were not without moments of joy and happiness. Raimund was blessed to know and spend time with his two loving grandchildren, Tristan and Callia. He also found joy in briefly owning and driving his 1974 Triumph TR6 around his home in Oshawa. In 2018, the entire family took a wonderful trip back to Austria where Raimund was born to attend a joyful wedding.

Raimund was dedicated to the idea of lifelong learning. He made a point of always staying informed on current events while also being able to share historical facts to anyone willing to listen. One of the many things he advocated to his family and those he cared about was that “Knowledge is power”.

We will forever carry Raimund’s memory in our hearts and are thankful that he may now rest peacefully.
